National Professional Development Programme/Supervised Practice Programme
Please ensure you familiarize yourself with the NPDP/SPP Requirements
Below are the steps to complete your NPDP/SPP successfully. Please note that if you do not fulfil all requirements this will incur a further delay at the completion of your 48 weeks.
Before you Graduate

Apply for Provisional Statement of Accreditation through the AIR. Click here for application form.

Apply for Provisional Registration through Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA) form ASPR-91.

Enrol into the NPDP/SPP through the AIR. Click here.
- Apply for student membership (this is not mandatory for you to complete your NPDP/SPP).
- If you apply for student membership you will be automatically transferred to provisional membership once you graduate free of charge until the next financial year. This cost is only $22!
- Included in membership; AIR CPD programme; $10 million Professional Indemnity Public Liability & Products Liability Cover.
After you graduate and have confirmed employment
- Apply for a “Use Licence' (Victorian interns are granted a limited exemption from this process). Please click here for more information regarding where to apply for a "Use Licence".
- Log into the AIR website (Members' Area) and click on the NPDP tab.
- Click on “Add employment location” on the right hand side.
- Ensure that the start date and completion date are correct.
Only after you have your Provisional Statement of Accreditation, Provisional Registration, Enrolment into the NPDP/SPP and a “Use licence" (VIC exempt) are you eligible to start your NPDP/SPP.
Once you have all requirements to start
- Commence your NPDP/SPP
- Have your supervisor complete your 12 week assessment
- You are required to complete this assessment with your feedback.
- Have your supervisor complete your 24 week assessment
- You are required to complete this assessment with your feedback.
- Have your supervisor complete your 36 week assessment
- You are required to complete this assessment with your feedback.
- Have your supervisor complete your 48 week assessment
- You are required to complete this assessment with your feedback.
If a review has an “open” or “pending” status it is not considered as complete. All reviews need to be at a “complete” status.
By the completion of your NPDP/SPP you must supply the following:
Continuing Professional Development
- 2011 Graduates (completing their NPDP in 2012)
- Members of the Institute – Lodge 12 CPD credits via the online CPD tab
- Non Members – Complete the CPD template with 12 CPD credits and email it to the NPDP Coordinator npdp@air.asn.au.
- 2012 Graduates (completing their NPDP/SPP in 2013)
- Members of the Institute – Lodge 50 CPD credits via the online CPD tab
- Non Members – Complete the CPD template with all CPD activities that you have completed throughout the year and email it to the NPDP/SPP Coordinator at npdp@air.asn.au.
English requirement
- Citizens of Australia
- certified copy for your Australian Passport, Birth Certificate or Citizenship
- certified copy for your Australian Passport, Birth Certificate or Citizenship
- Citizens of United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, United States of America or Republic of Ireland
- certified copy of your Passport
- certified copy of your Passport
- All other countries
- IELTS with an Overall band score of not less than 7.0 in the ACADEMIC version of the International English Language Testing System(IELTS), with no individual element below 7.0, and completed within the past two years, and achieved in a single test OR
- Overall minimum of level B result in the Australian Occupational English Test, and completed within the past two years, and achieved in a single test.
Apply for a Validated Statement of Accreditation
- This form certifies that you are a qualified practitioner.
Apply for General Registration through the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA)
- APGR-91 form –
- QLD will need to apply for general registration without provisions.
Please note: the Australian Institute of Radiography DOES NOT send your validated certificate directly through to AHPRA!
You will receive a completion email once you have completed all the requirements of the AIR's National Professional Development Programme/Supervised Practice Programme. This confirms your completion in the programme.
After you have received the completion email the AIR will advise AHPRA and this will enable them to process your application for general registeration.

Professional Development Year (PDY)
NOTE: The PDY is now replaced by the National Professional Development Programme (NPDP) / Supervised Practice Programme (SPP) from 1st November 2010.
All graduates must now enrol into the NPDP/SPP, the PDY is no longer available to graduates.Any questions regarding the NPDP can be directed through to npdp@air.asn.au
